Mitsis Blue Domes Resort Review: Everything You Need to Know

We’re long time fans of the Mitsis hotel group, but Mitsis Blue Domes in Kos truly stands out. It combines all the luxury of a five star resort with everything a young family needs. Because let’s be honest – parents deserve a real holiday too! This resort lets you actually relax while your little ones have the time of their lives. We visited with our 3 year old and our baby (who turned 1 during our trip!)  and it was one of the most enjoyable family holidays we’ve had!

Read on to find out key information and our top tips -there’s also direct links to the rooms we stayed in too! Trust me, you need to check them out!

Location and First Impressions

The resort is just a 10 – 15 minute drive from Kos International Airport, making transfers super smooth. It’s roughly 11 – 12 km away, so you can go from plane to pool in no time.
As soon as you step foot into the main entrance of this place you are in awe – it is stunning! The setting is grand while still feeling authentically Greek. The buildings are white washed with traditional blue domes – it has real Greek character.
It is a fairly large resort although it is one you can take on by foot (no buggies here which I actually like!)
Beachfront Bliss and Surroundings

Mitsis Blue Domes sits directly on a Blue Flag awarded beach known for its cleanliness and crystal clear waters. The sea views are breathtaking and visible from many pools and restaurants. The resort itself is beautifully landscaped with palm trees and the architecture is distinctly and authentically Greek, with whitewashed buildings and blue-domed rooftops, giving the whole place a traditional island-village charm; it feels like a luxurious little village. You’re close to the town of Kardamena, but just far enough away to enjoy the peace and calm.
Accommodation: A Room for Every Kind of Family

One of the biggest highlights for us was the variety of room types available. From standard twin rooms, family suites, to bungalows and villas with private pools, there’s something for everyone. You can even book some ground floor rooms that are literally footsteps away from the pool too.
We stayed in two different types during our trip:
  1. A twin room with private pool – perfect for families who want privacy.
  2. A villa with sea view and private pool – the ultimate splurge and 100% worth it.
Having a private pool meant we could enjoy nap times without leaving our room. While the little ones rested, we relaxed poolside with drinks delivered straight to us – honestly, parent heaven!
Foodie Heaven: Dining and Restaurants

The main buffet restaurant is your go to for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It offers a wide selection of international and Greek dishes, with themed nights and dietary options (vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, lactose-free) available on request.

The à la carte restaurants are next level – no surprise they book up fast! Our top picks:
Ellinadiko (Greek) – Traditional flavours done beautifully, with fresh seafood and grilled meats that melt in your mouth.
Asian – Think crispy duck rolls in a stunning setting.
Others include Italian, Mexican and South American – all included in your stay too.
You’re never far from a snack, either. Some favourites:
  • Greek Street Food Kiosk – Don’t leave without trying the gyros!
  • American Street Food – Burgers, hot dogs and fries.
  • Healthy/ Vegan Bar – Juices, smoothies and lighter snacks.
  • Sweet Corner – Cakes, ice creams, crepes, waffles… heaven for kids and parents!
Bars and Drinks

The resort has multiple bars: beach, poolside, lobby, garden and even a night bar with live music and entertainment. From refreshing mocktails to indulgent cocktails and wine, you’ll never be stuck for choice.
Splash and Chill: Pools and Beach

There are 9 pools at this resort so plenty of choice (not forgetting many of the rooms have their own private pool in addition)! Each is beautifully designed and spread throughout the resort so it never feels crowded.

Bonus Tip: For toddlers and younger children, there are a few gentle slides and splash areas at the nearby Mitsis Norida Resort. We didn’t actually use these ourselves as we used our own pools and the beach!

Another thing that I liked about this place was that people didn’t reserve loungers so no need to wake up at 05:00am to throw your beach towel on one for the day! This is the same for both the pool and the beach…
Blue Flag Beach

Directly accessible from the resort, the beach is a mix of soft sand and shingle, with sun loungers, parasols, beach towels and bar service all included. Water sports like paddle boarding and jet skiing are available too (at an extra charge).

Tip: Bring beach shoes for little feet, especially for the stony areas (the ground gets really hot too!)
Entertainment and Activities

From aqua aerobics, beach volleyball and yoga to fitness classes and water sports, there’s always something happening. Families will love Mitsis Wonderland; a children’s paradise complete with playgrounds, arts and crafts, cinema and more.

At night, the resort comes alive with:
  • Live music & bands
  • Themed shows at the open-air theatre
  • A nightly kids’ disco
Whether you’re into dancing, watching a show, or just enjoying a drink under the stars, there’s something for everyone.

Who is This Resort Best For?

This resort is perfect for families, especially those with younger children. The kids are entertained, well fed and safe, while us parents finally get a chance to unwind. Every detail, from buggy friendly paths to kids’ menus and family friendly entertainment, is designed with families in mind.
But couples and adult groups will still find plenty of space to relax in more peaceful areas, especially if you opt for a private pool room.

Our Final Thoughts

We would 100% return to Mitsis Blue Domes. Even though it’s a large resort, it still feels authentically Greek. The warm hospitality, delicious food and thoughtful design make it stand out. It offers the kind of five star luxury where families are not just accepted – they’re celebrated.
Everyone leaves feeling recharged, even parents (yes, even you, mama!). If your budget allows, splurge on a room with a private pool – those quiet afternoon moments while the kids nap are absolutely priceless.
